Pantaleon Alessandri, Orezzincu & Pulendò
Pantaleon Alessandri is a cabinetmaker. Based in the Orezza valley, in the heart of the Castagniccia region, he has a special bond with the chestnut tree. For him, it's the tree of a lifetime. It's the tree that feeds us, but it's also the tree that provides the wood we use to make furniture, frameworks, floors, fence posts and objects of all kinds. In short, it's the tree that has given inland village communities the ability to thrive, and sometimes even to resist.
In his workshop in Nucariu, Pantaleon Alessandri has left a prime spot for the wood lathe. Because he's the last chairmaker in Orezza, he uses it regularly, but when he's not shaping chair rungs, he's happily making pulendaghji, st'arnese indispensevule per fà a pulenda di farina castagnina!
And for Castagnina, it was an obvious choice to work on a collaboration around this mythical objective, which must continue to find a place in our kitchens, whether we live in the city or the village!
O Corsu, in quella sirata,
Chi mittiste la paghjola
E feste una pulindata?
E cusì passaste alegra
U restu di la nuttata.
