To make our Castagnina rugs, large or small, Sandrine Tricon uses tufting, a technique that allows him to continuously insert different threads into a jute canvas. And she does it all with her gun! The name tufting comes from the English word 'tuft', and the little tufts of wool produced in this way are very soft indeed!
Tufting is often considered a recent technique, but it is inspired by older craft techniques.
Our Sandrine is also an excellent traditional weaver. On her 'tilaghju', she multiplies the stitches and wefts and we're already thinking about versions of woven chestnuts.
Sandrine's workshop is in the mountains of Boziu. In Alandu, the village of Sambucucciu the rebel, she has found inspiration, serenity and, above all, the much-loved estru paisanu.
